As we toured the cobblestone streets of Palermo, we saw plenty of delicious gelaterias, incredible pizzerias, and friends and family enjoying multi-hour lunches. Despite being located in a major metropolis, the neighborhood of Palermo, Buenos Aires Argentina possesses the charm of old-world Italy, which makes sense since during WWII, so many Italians fled Europe and escaped to South America, many choosing Buenos Aires Argentina as home.

We took a self-guided walking tour through the quaint cobblestone streets, focusing mainly on the square of Plaza Armenia. If you find yourself in Buenos Aires Argentina , a food tour of Palermo is a must. Here are our favorite stops on our food & wine tour:

  1. La Panera Rosa: With its sugary pink awning, it’s no wonder why this café is known for its sweets. Order the café con leche and the dulche du leche crepe… out of this world. Sugar coma, commence. Jorge Luis Borges 1685, C1414DGA Buenos Aires Argentina

2. Quimbombo: Now that you’ve had your fill of sugar, it’s time to cleanse the body at Quimbombo, an elegant eatery that specializes in healthier fair. Try one of their delicious juices or dine there for brunch. Their yogurt & granola does not disappoint. Costa Rica 4562, Buenos Aires Argentina

3. Anuva Wines: It’s hard to find the delectable Anuva Wines behind its obscure black door, but once you do, it is well worth it. As you find the address, ring the call button and an Anuva Wines specialist will retrieve you. This is not only a tasting, but an education in their curated selections. Tastings are on the pricier side around $50 USD. Note: be sure to make a reservation at this popular tasting room. Malabia 1308 | Palermo Soho, Buenos Aires, Argentina

4. Ninina: After your wine tasting, fill your stomach with something delectable at Ninina. Known for their cake, cookies, croissants, and other pastries, it’s the perfect treat to satiate your stomach. Gorriti 4738, Buenos Aires 1414, Argentina

5. Bar du Marché: One of our favorite cafes in all of Buenos Aires, Bar du Marché does not disappoint with its wine and cheese selection. The best time to go is between 5 and 8 pm for their 165 pesos happy hour (~$16 USD). We recommend ordering “The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far From The Tree.” Ah…it’s 8:30 am when I’m writing this…is it too early to drink wine? 6. Brooklyn: Perfect for a meal or just a cocktail, this two-tiered eatery dose not disappoint. If you’re looking for a low-key burger or sandwich, this is the place for you. Sit upstairs and people watch Plaza Armenia. Costa Rica 4588 | Plaza Armenia, Buenos Aires Argentina

7. La Genovesa: We stumbled upon this neighborhood gem on our walk home from our foodie tour. We were immediately entranced with the chef making homemade ravioli in the window. After 5 minutes of salivating outside, we decided we should walk in and try something. We ended up purchasing the most incredible ricotta ravioli for only 36 pesos! That’s around $3.50 USD! And that was dinner. Did I mention how much I love Palermo? Luis Viale 727, Buenos Aires Argentina

8. Malambo: As we continued our walk home, we stumbled on the most incredible vinoteca we have seen, only 2 doors down from La Genovesa. We walked in and told the salesmen that we had just purchased ravioli from La Genovesa. As though we were in a fancy restaurant with a personal sommelier, they helped us pick out the absolute perfect wine to go with our ravioli. On top of that, Malambo has top-tier Italian style meats, cheese, and other snacks. I was hoping we would “accidently” get locked in the store, but there’s always next time. Thames 2098, Buenos Aires 1425, Argentina
