As we strolled down the cobblestone streets hand-in-hand, it was as though we were transported to a romantic town from yesteryear. Gelato shops, pizzerias, and fine Italian leather shops lined the winding streets and beckoned us try a taste of their decadent offerings. The sounds of local musicians playing old-world Italian music glided over our ears while the nearby Ionian Sea blew a cool breeze over our bodies. We had officially entered the most romantic city in the world: Taormina Sicily. Here are our choices of the best things to do in Taormina Sicily with our Wanderlust Weekend.

FRIDAY

9:30 PM: Head to the Greek Theatre for a concert in this ancient theatre. With absolutely no microphones, watch these incredible artists sing classics in this amphitheater. We got to see the great songs from Bellini performed…talk about memorable!

SATURDAY

12 PM: Time for some beach action at Taormina’s popular beach. For the ultimate in luxury, visit Belmond Villa Sant’Andrea, where a dip in their infinity pool is truly unparalleled luxury.

2 PM: Take a dip in the crystal clear waters of the Ionian Sea. At low time, walk out to famed Isola Bella for a tour of this former private villa.

 

8 PM: Dine at La Botte, a local favorite for over 40 years. Their fresh fish and pastas are absolutely to die for. Order the house red to accompany your meal.

10 PM: Walk across the street to taste the famous Sicilian granita at Bam Bar. This can also be eaten for breakfast…love those Italians!

11 PM: Visit Morgana Taormina, the hippest bar in all of Taormina. With a view of the Ionian Sea below, this is a must-see, especially in the summer. Don’t forget to bring your dancing shoes as this bar/lounge turns up the bass and the heat on sizzling summer nights.

SUNDAY

8:30 AM: Rise and shine! It’s time for an unforgettable tour of the Etna Wine Trail with Experience Taormina.

12 PM: Enjoy a full day of wine tasting on the famous Mt. Etna. For lunch, dine at a private villa where the owner of the vineyard creates a memorable Sicilian feast.
