The best vacations for couples are the ones that break you out of your comfort zone, shake up your normal routine, and allow you to share the experience with the one you love. Certain trips seem to effortlessly exude adventure and romance; perhaps it is a whimsical waterfall, a night sleeping under the stars, a heart-pumping hike in the highlands, or an adrenaline filled bungee jump (for all you crazies out there). Whether you’re looking for an adventurous honeymoon, an anniversary trip, or a romantic getaway, these are the best adventure vacations for couples.

Park City, Utah

If there is one mountain town that we could return to over and over again, it would be Park City, Utah. Located less than an hour outside of Salt Lake City, Park City is by far one of the best adventure vacations for couples. While it’s famously known as a winter wonderland, there are endless adventures in every season in Park City. Some of our favorite adventures in the Park City area include skiing, snowboarding, and snowmobiling in the winter months and fly-fishing, bobsledding, and hiking in the summer months. We highly recommend staying at the Stein Eriksen Lodge and grabbing cocktails at the High West Distillery! For our full write-up on Park City, click here.

Jungfrau, Switzerland

The recipe for the best adventure vacations for couples involve alpine air, outdoor hikes, delicious food, and a majestic mountain backdrop, which is why Jungfrau Switzerland is by far one of the best romantic getaways for adventurous couples. Located just two hours outside of Zurich by train, the region of Jungfrau is by far one of the most charming mountain regions in the world. We recommend that couples stay in the town of Grindelwald, visit the waterfalls in Lauterbrunnen, take a train to Jungfraujoch, go hiking through the Rosenlaui Glacier Gorge, and mountain cart (like a go-cart) down First Mountain. Kruger National Park, South Africa

When it comes to adventurous vacations for couples, few places can compare to a South African safari. While on safari, there is a heightened state of awareness that simply cannot be replicated in the real world. That awareness and adrenaline create the perfect environment to bond in a new way with your significant other. We highly recommend staying at the luxurious, intimate, and exclusive Londolozi Lodge in the Sabi Sands area of Kruger National Park. This area of Kruger National Park is known for its “big cats” so you’re almost guaranteed to spot lions, leopards, and cheetahs during your visit.

Bariloche, Argentina

Bariloche is the gateway to Argentinian Patagonia and it is by far one of the most stunning mountain towns in all of South America. Located at the foothills of the Andes Mountains, Bariloche is known as Argentina’s lake district. Couples visiting Bariloche should stay at the Llao Llao Resort and spend your days hiking, kayaking, and enjoying spa treatments (ok fine, if I must). To learn more about our stay at the Llao Llao, click here. I mean, if it’s good enough for Obama to stay there during his trip to Patagonia, I guess it’s good enough for us 🙂

The Dolomites, Italy

The Dolomites are one of the most stunning mountain regions in all of Europe, making them one of the best adventure vacations for couples. There are a multitude of five-star resorts including Hotel La Perla, Alpenroyal Grand Hotel, and Cristallo, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa in Cortina d’Ampezzo. We would highly recommend spending time in the town of Cortina d’Ampezzo, zip-lining on Europe’s largest zip line, and hiking from rifugio to rifugio (hut to hut). One thing we do want to note about the Dolomites is that while they are located in Italy, you won’t have a normal “Italian” vibe. Instead, it feels much more like you’re in Austria, since this region did belong to Austria before WWI. Expect the cuisine to be mostly German/Austrian with a touch of Italian. Emerald Lake, Alberta, Canada

Alberta, Canada has dozens of great mountain towns to choose from. While nearby Banff and Lake Louise are incredible, we truly fell in love with the remoteness of Emerald Lake. Located in Yoho National Park in the Canadian Rockies, Emerald Lake is the largest lake in the region (there are 61 lakes and ponds!) We highly recommend staying at the Emerald Lake Lodge, a cozy lodge with no cell service and limited wifi. This lack of connection with the outside world coupled with the whimsical environment make Emerald Lake one of the best adventure vacations for couples. Lovers visiting the area can go ice-skating, snowshoeing, or cross-country skiing in the winter months or mountain biking and hiking in the summer months.

For couples that love adventure and wildlife, the Galapagos Islands are one of the most fascinating places on earth. While a cruise in the Galapagos Islands is not cheap and the islands aren’t easily accessible, a couples trip or honeymoon in Galapagos would be life changing. We highly recommend taking a luxury cruise like Silversea or National Geographic to explore these adventurous islands.

Yosemite National Park, California

Yosemite National Park is our pick for the most beautiful national park in the world, thus why it’s one of the best adventure vacations for couples. There are dozens of incredible hikes including Half Dome, one of the most famous hiking trails in the U.S. While there are luxury hotels like the Majestic Yosemite Hotel (formerly The Ahwahnee) and Tenaya Lodge, we recommend staying at Half Dome Village for the most authentic Yosemite experience.

Iceland

One of the best vacation spots for couples in the world is the island nation of Iceland. The landscape in Iceland is completely otherworldly, demanding your utmost attention and inspiring awe at all times. While there are luxury hotels in Iceland, the environment is best explored via campervan. There are so many welcoming campsites and beautiful places to see that it’s most authentically experienced via camping. Couples on an adventurous honeymoon or couples getaway to Iceland will be enamored by the black sand Reynisfjara beach, Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, and the stunning waterfalls like Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss. Great Barrier Reef, Australia

For all of the diving couples out there, there is no better place to vacation than The Great Barrier Reef in Australia. One of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World, the reef is the only living thing on earth that is visible from space! Since you cannot stay out on the reef, we recommend staying at a luxury resort such as Lizard Island, The One & Only Hayman Island, or Qualia.

Photo clearly not taken at the Great Barrier Reef, but there’s a koala, so … Australia!

Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Jackson Hole, Wyoming is a charming town on the outskirts of Yellowstone National Park. Known for its skiing in the winters and its hiking in the summers, Jackson Hole has plenty of adventures for couples.  There are two options for where to stay: downtown Jackson if you want more restaurant and bar action or Teton Village if you want more adventures.
