Three years ago, we packed up our things into two backpacks and set out for what was supposed to be a 7-month trip around the world. We wanted to take a career break, a grown-up half-gap year, and travel the world together. We started our blog, Roamaroo, as a way to keep our friends and family updated on our travels, as a form of purpose on our adventure, and as an incredible personal diary to look back on. Throughout these past three years, we’ve turned our love for storytelling into a full-time career, producing shows, writing books, and photographing some of the world’s most incredible destinations. Instead of looking forward to our two weeks vacation or working so hard that we need a career break, we’ve turned our every day into adventures that we love. We are both so grateful that we’ve been able to find our true purpose in life and we’re able to do it together.
A lot has changed since June 2015 and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We’ve turned our passion into our purpose and our love of travel into a way to creatively express our minds and bodies. By working together, we’ve been able to find a way to spend more time together and take our love to another level. After sharing our unique story with the world, now, tourism boards, hotels, airlines, and travel brands hire us to tell the unique story of their brands. It’s an incredibly rewarding job and we’re grateful to have met so many fantastic people and visited so many epic destinations along the way. While it may seem like we’re on a constant vacation based on our Instagram feed, what many don’t know is the work that goes behind every single photo, video, and article. We worked for free for over a year to prove ourselves in the industry and now, we actually work more than we did before we left for our around the world trip in 2015. We work seven days a week and we do it happily because we genuinely love the craft.
While we’ve learned so much about the business of travel in these past few years, we don’t want to forget our love for the art of travel. We’ve been so focused on telling the stories of the world and now it’s time to reconnect with our own personal stories. Just as we dedicate time to clear our minds with meditation and better our bodies with exercise, it’s time to inspire our creativity and replenish our souls with travel dedicated solely to us. For that reason, we’ve decided to pack up our belongings and go another trip around the world. That’s right, here we are in June of 2018 – three years after the initial idea of Roamaroo, heading out into the world hand in hand. We’re putting our things in storage, packing our lives into two bags (this time, we’ve graduated to rollaboards), and heading out for an around the world adventure. Just like last time, the impetus behind it is a pure unadulterated love for travel and for each other. This time will free the mind, replenish the soul, and allow space for us to reconnect with our creative sides.
This time will be a little different than the last in many ways. On our first go around the world, we wanted to see every single part of the globe, which meant we were on an airplane every 3-4 days. We always said that if we ever did this again, the main thing we would change is the pace of travel. This time, we’re going to slow down our travels and only visit two countries on our around the world trip. But perhaps the biggest difference is that we’ve already been to these countries! We’re going to revisit two of our favorite countries, Indonesia and Italy, and see them in a different way. We’re not rushing around to check things off of our bucket list, but instead we’re going to explore these countries in a deeper, more meaningful way. We will still be sharing our stories on all of our platforms and we’re always available to you, our loyal followers.
