SLEEP

While there are luxury hotels in Savannah such as the Kimpton and Andaz, we highly recommend renting a home through Lucky Savannah. We stayed in the Crawford Square Loft, an artist loft located on the eastern side of the city. This two-story loft was walking distance to Forsyth Park, River Street, and all of downtown Savannah Georgia. Because Savannah is home to 24 squares, it only felt right to stay right on one of these beautiful parks.

EAT

Savannah is a city for those that enjoy life so it’s no wonder that their restaurant scene is one of the best in the nation.  In Savannah, chefs get creative with cuisine and it’s perfectly acceptable to play with your food. We happily ate our way around Savannah, Georgia and enjoyed its eclectic taste in cuisine.

  • Collins Quarter: Owned by an Australian couple, this Savannah restaurant is the king of breakfast. Order a flat white and the smashed avocado for an epic “brekky.”
  • The Grey: Set in a 1938 art deco Greyhound Bus, The Grey serves soulful southern food in a unique setting. Our recommendations for food are the lamb & grits (best grits we’ve ever had!), the potatoes, and the octopus! Who would guess that grits would make our list the most romantic things to do in Savannah?
  • Atlantic: The team at Atlantic serves up creative takes on favored meals from around the world such as beef empanadas, bành mì, and pastrami sandwich. Its eclectic kitchen combined with its laid-back environment makes it a favorite eatery of Savannah locals.
  • The Olde Pink House: Known as “Savannah’s favorite address for lowcountry cuisine,” The Olde Pink House takes Southern hospitality, mixes it with a sophisticated setting, and tops it off with the best home-style cooking in Savannah. We highly recommend the fried chicken!
  • Treylor Park: Set in the heart of Savannah’s historic district, Treylor Park serves classic comfort food with an eclectic twist. Try the chicken & pancake tacos (a taco made out of a pancake!) and the PB&J chicken wings! Top it off with a delicious Georgia Mule, made with bourbon, lime juice, peach bitters, and ginger beer.
  • Leopold’s Ice Cream: Consistently rated in the ranking for the top ice cream shops in the world, Leopold’s Ice Cream is a must visit on any trip to Savannah. This ice cream shop has been an institution in Savannah for nearly 100 years. Consequently, hour-long lines regularly form at Leopold’s. We recommend visiting for breakfast one morning when it first opens. Because, is there any better start to the day than ice cream?

  • Tybee Island: We highly recommend renting a car and taking it over to the beaches of Tybee Island. Located just 20 minutes away from the city of Savannah, Tybee Island is home to wide, sandy beaches and a multitude of activities including bicycling, surfing, and camping.
  • Wormsloe Historic Site: This State Historic Site is located 15 minutes outside of Savannah. Live oak trees and Spanish moss cover the artery that leads to the historic site. Built by Noble Jones, one of the first settlers to arrive in Savannah in 1733, the tabby ruin is the oldest standing structure in Savannah Georgia.
  • City Market: This open-air market has been around since the 1700’s! Take a stroll through this market and explore shopping, dining, and various art installations.
  • Explore the Squares: Savannah is home to 22 outdoor squares sprinkled throughout the city. The open space in this urban environment creates a sense of community, calm, and charm.

DRINK

Savannah Georgia is one of the few U.S. cities that allow open containers in public, thus making it a dream for those that enjoy adult beverages. If you do want to take your drink outside, you’ll need to put it in a paper or plastic container.

  • Alleycat Lounge: Alleycat is a sanctuary for those that enjoy true cocktail craftsmanship, but it’s unpretentious enough to welcome the weekend warrior. This lounge, located in a basement, serves up a bevy of international cocktails and a lot of Southern flavor.
  • Service Brewery: This veteran owned brewery serves up the best beers in all of Savannah. Created by a husband and wife, the team at Service Brewing is passionate about “brewing great beer and honoring those who serve.”
  • Savannah Bee Company: The Savannah Bee Company serves Mead, an alcohol made out of honey, and one of the oldest alcoholic beverages known to man. Head over to their River Street location to do a mead tasting and learn all about this ancient form of alcohol!
