Cariocas (people from Rio) are known for their Brazilian booties and impeccable bodies. One of the best things to do in Rio De Janeiro is to be active! To blend in with the locals, partake in our top 8 fitness activities in Rio!

HIKES

Corcovado – A favorite hike of ours, the Corcovado hike gains 2,330 vertical feet and leads you to one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Christ the Redeemer.

Pedra da Gávea – One of the most challenging hikes in all of Rio also promises the best views the city has to offer. With a vertical gain of over 2,700 feet, this hike is no joke.

Mountaineering Sugarloaf

Sugarloaf Mountain mixes hiking and rock climbing into one epic adventure. The climb is welcome to beginners, but if you do get tired, you can simply look over your shoulder and enjoy sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Surfing

The best surfing in Rio is located in Zona Sul, the southern part of Rio. If you want more intense surf, head down to Prainha, where waves can get as big as 15 ft.

Running

Rio is littered with running paths. Our favorite place to run is along the paved path next to the beach or on the actual beach. Every few blocks, there are pull-up/dip bars that you can sprinkle into your run to get a full-body workout.

Bicycling

With over 250km of bicycle paths in Rio, it’s no wonder bicycling is a favorite of Cariocas and tourists. We recommend using the Bike Rio program, free for the first hour, and then rented for the day for R$5, or the month for R$10. The streets are filled with these bikes so you shouldn’t have a problem finding them.

Beach Boot Camps

Head down to the beaches of Leblon or Copacabana around 7 am and you’ll find dozens of beach boot camps. Join the group for running, drills, and medicine ball work to whip that booty into beach shape.

Play Footvolley

A mixture of soccer and volleyball, this is a favorite sport by Cariocas. Created on the beaches of Copacabana, this sport is played on the sand with a volleyball net and a soccer ball.

CrossFit

One of the most efficient ways to get in shape, CrossFit is the perfect way to meet locals and get your pump on at the same time. Our favorite spot in Rio is CrossFit Carioca, located in the heart of Ipanema beach.
