Hong Kong is a legendary metropolis filled with skyscrapers, bright lights, and millions of people from around the world. It is the epicenter of the Asian market and the ultimate destination for Asian elegance. And right in the midst of the corporate commotion is a hotel so sumptuous and sophisticated, it simply puts the others to shame.

Many attempt to make a statement in Hong Kong and few pass the test, but the first and flagship Mandarin Oriental hotel has truly stood the test of time. An icon of Hong Kong, the Mandarin Oriental is a must experience hotel. While Hong Kong is one of my favorite cities in the world with hundreds of restaurants and sights to see, I happily and willingly spent most of my time in the comfort of my home away from home, the best hotel in Hong Kong, The Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong.

THE ROOMS

Hong Kong is known for its cramped quarters, but The Mandarin Oriental boasts tremendous spacious rooms overlooking vibrant Victoria Harbour, making it the best hotel in Hong Kong. The rooms are elegant, but unpretentious; opulent, but sophisticated.

As we walked into our harbour view room, we were overwhelmed with ecstasy. This view – have you ever seen anything like it? The room’s gargantuan windows act like a frame to hold the beautiful canvas of Kowloon across the water. During the day, you can stare out over the distant mountains and the cruise ships in Victoria Harbour. By night, the city comes alive with lightshows and skyscrapers ablaze.

The beds. Oh, the beds. How am I supposed to go explore Hong Kong when there is an incredible king sized bed waiting for me to rest my head upon it? Ok. So I clearly dedicated a descent amount of time marinating in that decadent bed and it was worth every second I took away from the city.

My favorite part, and yes it is the little things, is the automatic blind remote. If I so choose to steep in my jet lag or just need to catch some z’s, I can shut out the bright lights and big city with just the push of a button. In the morning, I can open my blinds in the push of a button, awakening with the city and coming alive from its electric energy.

The bathrooms are a wonder of their own. With a rain shower and oversized tub, all overlooking the Harbour, they just beckon you to jump in. May I highly recommend marinating in a Mandarin Oriental bubble bath. It does wonders for the body and mind.

And don’t worry, I didn’t forget about you business travelers! As I sit here and write this blog, sipping from my oolong tea, gazing out over Victoria Harbour, I write from my business desk. A desk fully equipped with all of my needs and even a divider from the bedroom so that I may work in private. Sometimes you need to separate work and pleasure. Am I right?!

THE FOOD

Like everything at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, the food goes above and beyond anything I’ve ever experienced. We purchased the bed & breakfast package (which I highly recommend), where we were treated to a decadent buffet breakfast every.single.day in the Clipper Lounge. This feast included traditional eastern dishes such as dumplings and noodle dishes while also integrating western meals such as eggs, cheeses, and meats. The service was unparalleled and the food was absolutely tantalizing.

THE SPA

As a self-proclaimed spa glutton, you know I had to check out the massages! I rode the elevator up to the 24th floor of the Mandarin Oriental and was greeted by the spa staff, ready and waiting with hot tea, refreshing towel, and the most incredibly plush spa robe I’ve ever slipped on my body.

I was taken to an elegantly decorated room for my 1-hour Oriental Massage. This east meets west wondrous massage was a sensory experience for the record books. With each stroke, I was brought deeper into a tranquil state of mind and body. I cannot recommend this massage enough. The only thing I am upset about is that I didn’t book a 2-hour massage! …Until next time!

As for Scott, he treated himself to a world-class barber treatment in the Mandarin’s in-house barbershop. Scott received a true gentleman’s treatment: a straight edge razor shave plus proper grooming, all while surrounded by the beauty of a vintage barber salon. The barbershop is decorated with Art Deco inspiration of Shanghai in the 1930’s and is an absolute must experience on any trip to Hong Kong.

OVERALL

Overall, The Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong was one of the best hotels we’ve ever experienced in our lives and by far, The Mandarin Oriental is the best hotel in Hong Kong. The attention to detail from the staff is unparalleled as they treat everyone that walks through their golden doors like royalty. We felt special from the moment we walked through those doors to the moment we left, which is something that we strive to find when traveling. The little things made the difference at the Mandarin. From complimentary in-room tea at check-in to courtesy aromatherapy oils to soothe us into our slumber, the delicious devil was in the details during our stay. While we mixed business with pleasure in this metropolis, the Mandarin Oriental made sure our stay was unique, distinctive, and utterly unforgettable.
